Charles Bliss was born Karl Kasiel Blitz in 1897 in Czernowitz, which became part of Romania after World War I. He trained as a chemist and worked in Vienna.
Bliss, a Jew, was imprisoned in Dachau Concentration Camp by the Nazis in July 1938, then moved to Buchenwald in September. He was released after 13 months in captivity, and fled to Shangha...
