Fanny Cathcart first played Desdemona in Australia in 1855. She set new standards on the Australian stage with her ringing, intelligent delivery. In 1863-1864, Fanny played in Barry Sullivan's company while her brother James Cathcart played in the Charles and Ellen Kean company. Nellie Stewart played her first stage role, aged 5, in Kean's company...
