Administrative / Biographical history

Crockett bat plantation near Hepburn for many years provided Australia and most of the world with willow for cricket bats. The plantation had about 5000 trees (1963) which grew from one small cutting sent from England by captain Archie McLaren to umpire Bob Crockett.
