Founded by James Norton (1795-1862), solicitor, in Sydney from 1819-1862. The firm became Norton and Barker in 1826, Norton, Son & Barker in 1848, on the death of James Norton, Norton & Barker again, reverting to James Norton on Barker's retirement.
