The Institutions of Engineers Australia was formed in 1919 by the amalgamation of ten societies, the two local societies being the Engineering Association of NSW and the Sydney University Engineering Society. Many of the operations were the responsibility of geographical divisions. The Sydney Division commenced operations in January 1920.
