Conservation note
The painting was badly damaged when on exhibition in 1951 and further damaged while on loan in 1954. Extensive restoration resulted in over painting of entire sections, whose paint surface now bears little evidence of the artist’s hand.
Object History
Sold at James R. Lawson sale, F.W. Allen and John Young Collections, Sydney, 21 Nov. 1933, Lot 81.
Purchased by Vickery (art dealer) who sold it to Sir William Dixson
