Administrative / Biographical history

John (Jack) Hall Thorpe (1874-1947) was an illustrator and printmaker born in Victoria and raised in Sydney. He started out as a wood engraver for John Fairfax and worked as a staff artist on the Sydney mail. He moved to England in 1902. He is best known for his woodcuts of flowers, produced from around 1920 onwards.
