Administrative / Biographical history
The Sydney Harbour Bridge was officially opened on 19th March, 1932 by the Premier, Mr. Jack Lang. Before Mr. Lang could cut the ribbon, Francis Edward de Groot, on horse back, approached the ceremony and cut the ribbon with his sword. The ribbon was re-tied and re-cut by Lang.
