An 8 page autograph letter from Mrs Sarah Broughton to Mrs Keate dated 10 January 1832, addressed "Mrs Keate, Eton College, Windsor, England". The letter was posted in January 1832, has the stamp of "Eastbourne Ship Letter", and received in May 1832. Mrs Broughton writes of family life, friends and neighbours, and hardships of the early colony.

Administrative / Biographical history
Sarah Broughton was the wife of the first Bishop of Sydney, William Grant Broughton. The Broughtons were married on the 18th of July 1818 and had two daughters, Emily and Phoebe and a son that died in infancy. The family arrived in Sydney on the 13th of September 1829 where William Broughton replaced Archdeacon Thomas Hobbes Scott.
