Sir Maurice Charles Philip O'Connell, 1768-1848, soldier, came to New South Wales in 1809 and married in 1810, Mary Putland, widowed daughter of Governor Bligh. Their son, Sir Maurice Charles O'Connell, 1812-1879, soldier and politician, returned in 1838 and settled in Australia. Governor Bligh and Admiral John Bligh were first cousins
