Elizabeth Driver married soldier, explorer and lieutenant-governor William Paterson (1755-1810) in 1789. Administrative / Biographical history
William Paterson arrived in Sydney in 1791 as a captain in the New South Wales Corps. He was gazetted lieutenant-colonel in 1798 and appointed lieutenant-governor of NSW in 1801. When a new settlement was founded at Port Dalrymple (Van Diemen's Land) in 1804 he was put in charge of it, remaining there until 1809 when he returned to Sydney. He left...
