Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin was born in 1879 at Talbingo near Tumut, NSW. At the age of 20 she wrote an autobiographical novel entitled My brilliant career which was published in Edinburgh in 1901. In 1906 she went to Chicago, USA, where she worked for the National Women's Trade Union League of America, principally as co-editor of its journal...
