Photograph album comprising 78 photographic prints documenting the life of Chips Rafferty during the 1920s and 1930s. A further twenty six photographs were loose in the album and have been rehoused in sleeves.
Also included in the collection are four publicity stills of Rafferty / Scott '38.

Object History

The album and loose photographs were part of the Chips Rafferty estate received by the F. R. Strange auction room in 1971. Donor took possession of the album after it was unclaimed.

Administrative / Biographical history

Chips Rafferty MBE (1909-1971) was born John William Pilbean Goffage in Broken Hill, New South Wales. He worked as an ironmoulder, drover, shearer, boundary rider, deckhand in coastal boats and a wine cellar assistant before finding his niche acting on stage and in films.
