Francis Pringle Taylor (d. 1913), a naval officer, was born in Edinburgh, the son of Reverend Robert Taylor, of Blairgowrie, Scotland. He joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1866, and after serving on several ships he arrived in Australia in 1879. From 1880 to 1884 he was lieutenant in command of H.M.S. Wolverine.
