John Boyle O'Reilly, 1844-1890, Irish revolutionary and author was convicted of sedition and transported to Western Australia, arriving January 1868. In 1869 he escaped aboard an American whaler to the U.S.A. where he lived thereafter. He lectured in the Irish cause and edited the Boston newspaper Pilot
