Administrative / Biographical history
Flinders and George Bass set out from Port Jackson on 7 October 1798 in the sloop 'Norfolk', accompanied by the private vessel 'Nautilus' (Captain Bishop, Supercargo Roger Simpson), to circumnavigate Van Diemens Land. They reached Twofold Bay on 9 October, and spent four days surveying the bay.
