Administrative / Biographical history
The Mermaid Tree is located at Careening Bay, Western Australia, on the Kimberley Coast. HMC Mermaid was captioned by Philip Arthur King during a voyage around the Australian coast in 1820. The Mermaid was beached in the bay and was undergoing repairs by the crew. A carpenter from the ship carved the name into a Boab tree
