Phyllis Clare Silverwood was born in 1916 to Harris Silverwood and Adeline Britt. She married Maxwell Hall in 1942.
Phyllis worked as a mannequin at Mark Foys and David Jones, then at the age of 21 she met Norman Lindsay and became one of his life models.
