Oswald Brierly was born in Chester, England in 1817. After studying art in London he joined Ben Boyd's yacht 'Wanderer' in 1841 on a voyage to Australia. From 1842 to 1848 he managed Boyd's whaling station at Twofold Bay on the south coast of NSW. In 1848 he sailed with Owen Stanley on HMS Rattlesnake to survey the inner route along the Great Barri...
