Clarence Pond was born in Wallsend, New South Wales, in 1895. After training as a chemist/assayer he obtained work in the Western Australian gold fields. On 17 July 1916 he enlisted in the 11th Battalion AIF. On 29 June 1917 he embarked on HMAT Borda (A30) with the rank of Acting Lance Sergeant. After arriving in Plymouth, he was sent to Lark’s Hil...
