Saxe Bannister - 'Statements and documents relating to proceedings in New South Wales, in 1824, 1825, and 1826 : intended to support an appeal to the King, by the Attorney General of the Colony', 1827, with manuscript annotations, 1827-1828

Bannister's own copy of his book with many annotations in his hand. The book was printed in one volume by William Kirkbride of Cape Town in 1827, but this copy has been divided into two volumes, presumably so that Bannister could include additional material. A note in this copy states that the first 74 pages were originally produced as a pamphlet. This copies differs from others in form (two volumes instead of one) and in having additional printed pages, newscuttings, and extensive manuscript annotations by the author. An additional seven printed pages follow page 74, numbered 74a-g. These pages add information up to the date 5 Jan. 1828. Annotations in the margins of the book also include information added after publication. Generally, these notes add to the overall tenor of the book, being notes of additional cases and other information designed to strengthen Bannister's arguments. The back of volume 1 contains approximately 28 pages of newscuttings, and manuscript notes, quotations and copies of correspondence. The correspondence comprises extracts copied from letters received, May to Oct. 1827. Among these are letters from his brother John, 4 July to 17 Sept. 1827. There is no indication of the authors of the other letters. Some letters are written from Sydney and express support for his position.
